Japanese Pokémon TCG box and case sizes: packs, cards and boxes per case

Japanese booster boxes usually hold fewer, smaller packs than English ones. A standard Japanese expansion box holds 30 packs of 5 cards, while the English booster display box for the same series holds 36 packs. High-class sets come as 10 packs of 10 cards, and special sets have their own layouts. The table covers the main booster boxes and trainer boxes we sell; anything we couldn't confirm is marked "—".

How many packs are in a Japanese booster box?

It depends on the set type. The official Pokémon Center Online listings for the Mega Evolution series boxes (Mega Brave, Mega Symphonia, Inferno X, Nihil Zero, Ninja Spinner, Abyss Eye and Storm Emeralda) all give the same layout: 30 packs per box, 5 cards per pack. Glory of Team Rocket and Heat Wave Arena from the Scarlet & Violet era use it too.

High-class sets are packed differently. Terastal Festival ex and Mega Dream ex come as 10 packs of 10 cards: a 100-card box, against 150 cards in a standard box, with each pack costing more at retail.

Special sets vary. Pokémon Card 151 uses 7-card packs, 20 to a box. 30th Celebration uses 6-card packs, 20 to a box, and every card in the set is foil. Check each set before you plan shelf space or a break schedule.

  • Standard Japanese expansion: 30 packs × 5 cards
  • High-class set: 10 packs × 10 cards
  • Special sets: set-specific, e.g. 151 at 20 × 7 and 30th Celebration at 20 × 6
  • English booster display box, same series: 36 packs

How many booster boxes are in a Japanese case?

Case counts aren't printed on the official product pages. They come from distributor and retailer listings, so they're harder to confirm than box contents, and they aren't the same for every Japanese product. Storm Emeralda and 30th Celebration ship 12 boxes to a case. Japanese retailers list the high-class Terastal Festival ex in 20-box cartons.

Where we haven't confirmed a case count, the table shows "—". Ask us before planning a full-case order on those sets.

How many Elite Trainer Boxes are in a case?

The English 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box holds 9 booster packs, and a sealed case holds 10 boxes, 90 packs in total. We sell it both as a single box, in multiples of 4, and as the 10-box case.

Japan's closest equivalent is the Premium Trainer Box. Premium Trainer Box MEGA holds 20 packs, 10 each of Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia.

Why is sealed product sold in case multiples?

Sealed product arrives from distribution by the case. Breaking a case to sell single boxes costs the supplier its case discount, and that cost ends up in the unit price. So most suppliers, Fudakura included, sell sealed product in fixed multiples, and by the whole case where one is listed.

For you, a whole case can cost less per box (the Storm Emeralda case does), and it keeps stock in the condition collectors ask for: sealed boxes from one case.

How do Fudakura's minimums and order multiples work?

Every product has a minimum order quantity and an order multiple, both shown on the product page and applied at checkout. Most Japanese booster boxes have a minimum of 6, in multiples of 6. Products sold as a sealed case, such as the Storm Emeralda 12-box case and the English 30th Celebration 10-box ETB case, have a minimum of 1.

There is no minimum order value, so you can mix products as long as each line meets its own minimum. Prices fall at published quantity breaks. See how wholesale works and the minimum order rules.

Do all Japanese cases hold the same number of boxes?

No. Storm Emeralda and 30th Celebration cases hold 12 boxes, while retailers list Terastal Festival ex in 20-box cartons. Check the specific product, or ask us.

Are Japanese and English sets the same?

Not always. Sets often release in both languages under different names and pack layouts. Japanese Abyss Eye, for example, came out in English as Pitch Black.
